Alliance4XR: A European Collaboration Bringing XR Innovation to Education and Industry

At EuroXR Association, we are proud to witness how the Alliance4XR project an Erasmus+ initiative co-funded by the European Union  is driving forward the integration of immersive technologies across multiple sectors and learning environments in Europe.

Over the periode of one month, the Alliance4XR consortium has delivered a series of highly successful workshops in Greece, Portugal, and Cyprus. These events demonstrate how Extended Reality (XR) is becoming an essential tool for bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry needs. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the entire consortium for its remarkable effort and dedication to advancing XR innovation in education and training.

Here is a look at three of their standout events:

Exploring XR/AR in Engineering - Thessaloniki, Greece

Held at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, this hands-on workshop welcomed students, researchers, and professionals to explore how XR and AR technologies can transform engineering education.

Participants experimented with the Alliance4XR platform, explored state-of-the-art VR equipment, and engaged with real-world XR/AR applications in academic settings. The event also fostered valuable connections between participants and XR specialists, showcasing the power of collaboration between academia and industry.

Organised by the Laboratory of Geoinformatics in collaboration with Geoimaging Ltd, Virtual Solutions, and TEE TKM, the workshop highlighted the growing role of immersive technologies in supporting digital transformation in engineering disciplines.

Empowering Students & Educators with XR - University of Minho, Portugal

At the University of Minho’s School of Engineering, the focus shifted to empowering both students and educators through hands-on XR training.

Participants explored how immersive tools can support the teaching of structural design, spatial analysis, and energy systems. Live demonstrations and interactive sessions helped educators discover new methodologies to foster deeper engagement in the classroom.

A key highlight was a roundtable discussion where academic and industry leaders shared insights into how XR is reshaping engineering education. The event reinforced the urgency of upskilling Europe’s future workforce to keep pace with digital transformation, with the University of Minho playing a central role in updating curricula to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

XR for Maritime Innovation - Larnaca, Cyprus

On June 5th, 2025, the city of Larnaca became a living lab for the maritime sector during the workshop “Application of XR Environment in the Maritime Context”

Organised by CMMI - Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute, the workshop addressed ethical considerations, emphasizing the importance of data privacy, inclusion, and responsible use of XR in professional training. As the maritime industry embraces digital transformation, Alliance4XR is helping ensure that education and training evolve accordingly.

Professionals, educators, and students explored how XR technologies can enhance maritime training, from shipboard emergency response and engine maintenance to green port operations. Participants experienced how immersive simulations can significantly improve operational safety, decision-making, and learning outcomes in maritime environments.

Looking Ahead

The Alliance4XR project is a powerful example of how European collaboration can advance XR innovation across sectors. These workshops reflect the consortium’s commitment to empowering educators, students, and professionals with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly immersive world.

At EuroXR Association, we applaud the efforts of the entire Alliance4XR consortium and look forward to seeing even more impact as the project continues to grow. Initiatives like this are key to shaping Europe’s digital future, and we are proud to support them.
