EuroXR Summer School 2026

EuroXR Summer School 2026: Training the Next Generation in XR with Alliance4XR

The EuroXR Summer School 2026 returns as a key initiative in immersive technologies in Europe, bringing together advanced training, research, and international collaboration in a dynamic learning environment.

Organised by the EuroXR Association and AVR Lab, and supported by partners of the Alliance4XR project funded by Erasmus+, this year’s edition reinforces its strong European dimension. The Summer School is locally organised by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and hosted by LabGeo, strengthening its academic and applied research foundations.

Programme structure and learning approach

The Summer School offers a five-day programme combining theoretical lectures, hands-on project work, and collaborative learning. Its structure follows a progressive approach, guiding participants from core concepts in XR to the development of complete immersive applications.

A significant part of the programme is shaped by the objectives of the Alliance4XR project, particularly in the areas of XR education, skills development, and innovative teaching methodologies. At the same time, the programme expands beyond the project scope to cover a broader range of technologies and application domains.

From theory to practice

The theoretical component introduces participants to key areas of XR, including:

  • immersive technologies (VR, AR, XR) and their foundations

  • hardware and software systems for XR

  • applications in engineering, construction, and simulation

  • energy and environmental systems

  • maritime engineering and training simulations

  • augmented reality and geolocation systems

These sessions are complemented by practical activities integrated throughout the week.

Working in teams, participants apply their knowledge to develop XR solutions through:

  • building immersive VR environments

  • developing AR scenarios based on geolocation

  • creating 3D models of buildings and environments

  • working on collaborative simulation use cases

The programme concludes with project presentations and evaluation sessions, encouraging reflection and consolidation of both technical and collaborative skills.

European collaboration and impact

The involvement of EuroXR, AVR Lab, and the Alliance4XR consortium highlights the strong European dimension of the Summer School. The programme contributes to the objectives of Erasmus+, supporting the development of XR education and advanced digital skills across Europe.

It also promotes collaboration between universities, research centres, and industry, fostering interdisciplinary and practice-oriented learning.

Community and experience

Beyond its academic content, the Summer School provides an open and collaborative environment where participants can connect and exchange ideas.

Networking activities, group work, and social events, including a welcome dinner, create opportunities for meaningful interaction and long-term collaboration.
